La Charica Inn & Suites was our home sweet home in Puerto Princesa for four days while attending the 2013 National Annual Conference for Nurses.

Accessibility
Located at the quiet street of Abad Santos, it is a five to six minutes ride from the airport and accessible to the rest of downtown Puerto Princesa via tricycle (8 pesos minimum fare).
The very first time I stumbled upon this place after hours of surfing the net, I was convinced to include this on my list of choices. At that time, we were already estimating our trip budget and their website was very helpful because the room and tour package rates were posted.
After some discussions with my colleagues, I inquired at La Charica. Aside from being accommodating in the phone, Ms. Jam - the General Manager, was also very prompt in sending emails regarding the packages we were asking for. The rest of the staff were polite and prompt in replying to our queries and concerns from our arrival up until our departure, including our change of tour dates and adding of Iwahig Firefly Watching Tour. It was also very kind of them to include Badjao Seafront in our City Tour itinerary although we had to pay an extra 500bucks because we exceeded the four hours maximum time. But that was just a little issue to rant about.
Hotel Interior and Rooms
Because there were other conventions simultaneously held at PPS that time, we were given a special rate of 600 per day per person for a quad room. That includes airport transfers (arrival and departure) welcome drinks and free breakfast.

When we arrived, the facade was undergoing renovation but the interior was beautiful and decorated with wooden furniture and handicrafts. The highlight was the orange sofa that contrasted the hotel's earthly hues.

Random paints on the mirror add a tribal feel; that's the orange sofa. |
We stayed at Room 7 located at the second floor, just a few steps away from the veranda where we spent our time surfing the net. Yupp, there's wi-fi in the hotel.

Our room has one king size bed and a pull-out bed. The space was just right for the four of us to move simultaneously. There's intercom in the room which was very helpful when we have to relay our concerns to the staff on duty (no elevators, only stairs). The aircon and television were working perfectly. Room cleaning can be requested from time to time, just make sure to secure your valuables.
These dogs greeted us when we returned after a whole day at Aziza. |
The comfort room has hot shower which we find very useful in the morning. There were also complementary toiletries and towels were changed every room cleaning.
Restaurant
The MacArthur Restaurant and Bar is located at the posterior portion of the hotel. The pond and mini-garden add a more 'at home feel' when dining or just drinking coffee.
Behind us is the restobar; notice the wooden furnishings and decors. |
We eat breakfast at 6:30 in the morning, but you could always advise them in case you want to have it earlier. They usually serve typical Filipino breakfast (tapsilog, dangsilog, longsilog and tocilog) but if you want to have sandwich instead, you could always ask them. The staff in the restaurant were also nice and polite.
Overall Impression
After four days of stay at La Charica Inn and Suites, I was convinced that we found a good deal. The room and the amenities exceeded my expectations; but what made our stay more pleasant are the accommodating and nice people working at La Charica.
